According to Bloomberg, Iberdrola SA has won approval to build 50 wind farms in Romania requiring at least $2 billion. If it realizes it will be the worlds largest land-based wind energy development in the world.

The project would supply 1 million homes with energy. The Spanish based utility company is already the worlds biggest wind farm owner, eventually producing renewable energy in 10 markets including the USA. The new development will increase the gap to the 2nd largest wind energy producer, Florida based FPL Group. Iberdrola aims to have an installed capacity of 16,000 megawatts in renewable energy by 2012. It currently has installed 11,294 megawatts.
