Nowadays, the most modern use for wind mills is for the benefit of producing electricity out of wind energy. Wind as a source for energy is not hard to acquire and freely available. Every home needs energy and the natural resources of wind are the perfect source of converting wind energy into electricity which every home needs.

Windmills or wind turbines as they are commonly called is a very innovative way of producing low cost electricity.

There are three classified Wind turbines categories:

·Small wind mills with a minimum of 50 to 60 kilowatts output

·Medium wind mills with the capability of50 to 1,500 kilowatts output

·Large wind mills with 2 to 3 megawatts output

The basic rule here is that the bigger the wind mill – the more electricity can be produced. One important factor to always consider when starting a self made windmill project is that larger windmills also create higher maintenance costs.

One should not forget that wind mills are not always 100% operational during the day so having a generator set or a battery at bay should always be considered to cover for periods of lesser wind activity. Diesel powered generators or batteries are a reliable alternative source of energy when your windmill is shut down.

In any case, one can not deny that regardless of the percentage that your windmill is not operational in a day, wind mill power is the ultimate resource to cut your monthly energy costs and depending on location and output capacity of your windmill, one might even be able to sell any excess electricity back to the local energy board.
