Wind power is absolutely freely available; wind power causes no pollution and is being used for hundreds of years. But why does wind energy still only accounts for as little as approximately 1% of the world’s total energy requirements? If we only look a little deeper into this issue, the answers are clear:

Many unfounded opinions are making the roundabout wind energy which had mostly arisen from people’s early experiences with wind-powered turbines. But technology has undergone such profound changes since the early days of the first wind turbines….. the misconceptions have not changed.

Fairytale: Windmills are harmful to nature and its life stock of birds

There is absolutely no proof to support this commonly known fairy tale; One can confidently say that more birds are killed by cars, multi-story and high rise buildings or by other human activity than by any of the currently known wind turbine technologies. There are claims, however, that this wind farm in southern Texas for instants kills 7200 birds per year with its heavy blades. In fact, cats are known to kill more birds than windmills do.

There are even reports that large-scale wind farms affect the migration structures of birds. This does not occur as environmental surveys are regularly being carried out in densely populated wildlife bird areas where installations of wind-powered turbines are principally strictly restricted.

Fairytale: Windmills generate disturbing noise levels

Maybe thirty years ago, one could say that this was the case but it is definitely not true today. Through technical evolution and current application techniques, windmills have become near silent. Near a windmill in motion, mechanical noise can hardly be noticed and only the sound of air smoothly breathing through the turbine blades can be heard. In fact, a modern self-build a wind turbine at a distance of a 50m is no noisier than a combination boiler working in your basement
