White Deer Windpark

Beautiful and controversial shot of Jesus RIP on cross in front of a Wind Turbine Skyline at White Deer which is Shell WindEnergy’s second major commercial project in the US. The 80 megawatt (MW) wind power facility is located 40km north-east of Amarillo, Texas. The White Deer project consists of 80 Mitsubishi 1MW turbines. The turbines are located in two groups, either side of a north-south running stream. The terrain consists of a slightly elevated area in a region of flat farming terrain and the land surrounding the turbines continues to be used for farming activities. The local area also contains small oil producing wells, and is traversed by several gas pipelines.

Each year, the project is estimated to produce enough power to meet the energy needs of around 24,000 American households.

As much as 5000 Turbins scattered around the pass. Many are more then 30 years old. Only now wind energy is getting the boost it deserves.

There is quite a few dozen around the Mojave Desert near Tehachapi pass. Remember the Wind Rush in the 70’s and 80’s. There are over 5000 wind turbines in the area, many of them don’t turn at all!

I am thrilled at finding other people in the world wanting to make a change. I was in a hilly area in nothern europe and saw a small wind farm that a local farmer started. He has about 30 windmills up and place on the highest part of the ridges of his property. I was about ten miles away and could see them. They were an awesome sight. I was told that whatever he does not use up the local utility company has to buy back from him at the going rate. I would love to see something like that in every area which has sufficiant wind available in every part of the world

A 43-storey residential tower being built by developers Multiplex Living. Around 30% of the 408 apartments will be affordable, while special wind turbines will help bring energy costs down by 40 per cent. Phase one of the residential units were sold off plan within 24 hours. Subsequent phases will be sold in the future.

The first fact people recall about The Netherlands as a country is of course its ‘Windmills’. Windmills have been built in The Netherlands for many centuries. In the beginning, the mills were developed for corn milling, land drainage, saw milling and for many other industrial purposes. Dutch wind mills are actually in many ways quite primitive. Only using canvas sails and turned to the direction from where the wind was coming from by hand. Quite different to the automated mechanisms that can also be seen below which were developed for English windmills which included fantails and shuttered sails. There are still a very pleasing number of functioning remaining windmills in the Netherlands and even a set of ‘Dutch Style’ Windmills in the US to be seen in the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, CA. The number of operating mills in The Netherlands is currently about 1200 and rising, in that the Dutch only count complete workable mills, and in the past years, many extensive rebuilds have occurred to add to this number. Aren’t they just beautiful?
