Gaia-Wind has been developing and manufacturing small and efficient wind turbines for supplying electricity to properties such as private houses, farms, offices, companies and swimming pools for nearly 20 years. With 150 wind turbines already installed, Gaia-Wind has more than 1,000 years of operational experience.

The Gaia-Wind 133-11kW turbine has been designed to operate in environments with moderate wind, and is ideal for conditions found around mainland UK, Ireland and Italy. The two bladed Gaia-Wind 133-11kW wind turbine was developed in the early 90’s in Denmark, a world leader in wind power. The first wind turbine has been operational since 1993, representing almost 20 years of operational experience. Independent testing proves that the Gaia-Wind small wind turbine out produces equivalent three blade design

The electricity from a Gaia-Wind turbine (typically 30,000 kWh per year) delivers clean electricity for everyday use. A single Gaia-Wind 11 kW turbine will bring the carbon footprint of a four-person household back to zero.

The Gaia 133-11kW turbine is mounted with reflection-free light grey blades, which match the sky and the clouds. With the slim line design of the nacelle, together with its extremely low noise output, enables the wind turbine adapts easily into the surrounding countryside.

Gaia-Wind turbines have been developed according to ‘Danish design’; the design basis for most of the large wind turbines on the market. Gaia-Wind products are based on a modular design using components that have been carefully selected to provide high quality, maximum reliability and low maintenance requirements. The Gaia 133-11kW has been approved according to the official HB-standards laid down by the Danish Government. Gaia-Wind is the only manufacturer of small wind turbines to have achieved this approval, which ensures top product quality to our customers.

The Gaia 133-11kW is connected to an electrical installation at the owner’s property when a grid connection is available, thereby enabling the electricity to be used directly by the owner. Any surplus can then be sold on to the electricity board. When using stand-alone wind turbines, the turbines work in parallel with a diesel generator or a battery bank, providing clean electricity to remote installations without a public grid. Electricity from the wind turbine can also be used for direct heating purposes. Energy produced by the turbine, but not used on site, can be directed back to hot water tanks, storage heaters or under-floor heating, instead of being sold back to the electricity board.

The control system has been developed from the controllers of large turbines. It contains multiple sensors which continuously monitor the status and performance of the turbine. The internet connection for the controller means the wind turbine can be monitored online. With every internet-connected computer or PDA, you can check the energy production and the operational status of your Gaia-Wind turbine. You will also be able to view historical production overviews.

The Gaia 133-11kW wind turbine is protected against high wind speeds by a number of safety features: passive stall control; mechanical brake activation; and deployment of centrifugally activated tip brakes.

The Gaia-Wind small wind turbine has a patented ‘teeter’ hub which allows the two oversized blades (or one long blade) to rotate over a small angle. This prevents the most damaging turbulent loads from entering the main shaft. The two bladed design creates greater blade stability than that shown in designs of three blades which can often suffer from high turbulent loads and increased down time.

Microprocessor-Based Technology

The AIR is by far the world’s number one selling small wind turbine.In late 2001 Southwest Wind Power introduced an entirely new level of technology previously found only in state-of-the-art mega-watt-class wind turbines.

The Air X incorporates a new microprocessor-based technology that results in increased performance, improved battery charging capability, greater reliability and the reduction of “flutter” noise from the machine.

The controller allows for peak-power tracking of the wind by optimizing the alternator’s output on all points of the cubic curve and efficiently delivers the energy to the battery. The turbine’s smart controller allows it to actually control blade rotation speed thus eliminating the buzzing noise commonly found with most small wind turbines.

Quieter operation

Previous AIR wind modules relied on their aero-elastic blade design for protection in high winds. This caused a loud flutter noise in winds above 35 mph (16 m/s). The Air X circuit monitors the wind speed and electronically slows the blades as it reaches its rated output preventing it from going into flutter. This results in a much quieter wind turbine. In high winds, the Air X will continue to produce power at a reduced level until the wind decreases, at which point maximum potential output will resume.

Improved Battery Charging

Previous AIR designs required 300-400 amp hour battery banks so the trickle charge of the wind turbine could be adequately absorbed. The Air X charge controller periodically stops charging, reads the battery voltage, compares it to the voltage setting and if the battery is charged, it completely shuts off all current going to the battery. This function is performed within a few milliseconds. The closer the battery is to reaching its full state of charge, the more often the Air X circuit repeats this action. This means any size battery bank from 25 to 25,000 amp hours or higher can be charged safely. When the battery has reached its charged state, the Air X will slow to an almost complete stop. Only when the battery has dropped below its voltage set point will it startup and resume charging.

• The nose cone is made of reinforced aluminum alloy.
• It’s located in front of blades to reduce the wind resistance. The generator is enclosed in the nose cone, which is favorable for heat dispersion.
• Protection cover: It is located between the blades and nose cone, and is made of reinforced aluminum alloy to further reduce the wind resistance and protect the generator.
• Yaw shaft: It is made of superior steel to integrate blades, the generator, tail pole, tail wing and tower. Inside the yaw shaft there are slip rings to prevent the cable from twisting.
• Tail pole: It is light with high intensity and made of manganese steel.
• Tail wing: It is made of stainless steel, inflexible, auto-deflection in high wind condition, reliable and sharp in speed limitation.

• Guy wires & anchors: Guy wire adopts button structure, and arrow like anchor, so it is much easier for installation
• Surface coating & protection: All the parts are static molded and then galvanized, so they are anticorrosion, UV-proof, crashworthy, fastness and will be fresh all year round.
• All the parts are made of high quality aluminum alloy and superior steel, which can be used in the temperature ranging from -45℃to 45℃, in the surroundings of high wet, sand salt or frost areas.

Generator:

• This generator is the most advanced in the world, which has four patents.
• It is extremely light and small, high in efficiency–more than 0.78 of utilization ratio.
• Light: Generator is extremely light. Eg; The weight of 1000w generator is only 15kg, including blades, hub and nose cone.
• Small: The generator is inside the nose cone, and the volume is only 1/6 of conventional ones.

• Most turbine blades have weak endurance through gale force type winds, they break easily in low temperature, the usable time in gale area is usually no more than 3 years, etc, Hummer has designed a new wind turbine blade, which can bear gale  force winds.
• The hummer wind blade’s successful application prolongs the entire wind turbine’s service life to 10-15 years more. With the auto-deflection tech, it operates stable-quietly and soundlessly, and also brings enormous convenience for use and replacement.

Nose cone:

• The nose cone is made of reinforced aluminum alloy.
• It’s located in front of blades to reduce the wind resistance. The generator is enclosed in the nose cone, which is favorable for heat dispersion.
• Protection cover: It is located between the blades and nose cone, and is made of reinforced aluminum alloy to further reduce the wind resistance and protect the generator.
• Yaw shaft: It is made of superior steel to integrate blades, the generator, tail pole, tail wing and tower. Inside the yaw shaft there are slip rings to prevent the cable from twisting.
• Tail pole: It is light with high intensity and made of manganese steel.
• Tail wing: It is made of stainless steel, inflexible, auto-deflection in high wind condition, reliable and sharp in speed limitation.
• Tower: It is made of carbon steel, with several sizes of outer diameter and height. They are anticorrosion, as well as UV-proof.
• Guy wires & anchors: Guy wire adopts button structure, and arrow like anchor, so it is much easier for installation
• Surface coating & protection: All the parts are static molded and then galvanized, so they are anticorrosion, UV-proof, crashworthy, fastness and will be fresh all year round.
