Description
We are seeking experienced freelance Project Managers for Wind Farm Construction for various mid sized and large wind farm projects (35MW – 100MW) throughout Central Europe, Eastern Europe and Africa.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the freelance job of Project Manager, applicants must have:
4 or more years of wind farm or similar project experience; 7 – 10 years of construction or engineering experience
Bachelor’s degree. Bachelor’s degree in construction, electrical, mechanical, civil or other engineering or technical discipline or construction management strongly preferred.
Strong project management skill set required including contract management, contract administration, scheduling, planning, financial control and management.
Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
Knowledge of scheduling programs such as Primavera or Microsoft Project
Knowledge of drawing programs such as ACAD
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:
· Experience as a project manager for wind or similar projects
· Master’s degree in Engineering or Business
· Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP)
· Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
Travel: This position may require up to 50% travel during peak construction season
SCOPE:
The Project Manager supports MyWindPowerSystem’s business unit by providing senior management of construction activities for the construction of wind farms. Management of a project normally lasts 12 to 18 months with the project manager becoming significantly involved at the later stages of development through turn over to operations. During this timeframe, an active construction period of 6 to 9 months is involved.
The Project Manager is responsible for all construction and capital spend related activities once the project is authorized for construction. A formal Major Projects Common Process template must be followed for projects and the project manager is the lead for this during final planning and execution of the project.
During construction, the Project Manager will be responsible for managing one or more construction contractors such as a general contractor and detailed coordination with the general contractor’s sub-contractors as well as management of the wind turbine supplier. Specific management areas include:
Safety performance – as the Project Manager, you will lead the safety efforts through the on-site BP site manager and through close coordination with the contractors and turbine supplier performing work. This includes providing the right contractual and non-contractual motivation, monitoring work, jointly developing key processes and procedures on site including the site safety plan.
Schedule performance – the Project Manager leads the effort to develop the project P50 and P90 schedules coordinating with external contractors, the BP scheduler, project engineering, development and other parties and then is measured on the ability to meet the P50 schedule, managing schedule issues as they arise.
Cost – the Project Manager leads the effort to develop the project P50 and P90 capital budgets, working closely with internal parties, especially the project engineer and developer. This may include negotiating risk and cost with contractors and ensuring that an achievable but profitable capital project is developed and delivered.
A strong project management skill set is required including contract management, contract administration, scheduling, planning, financial control and management of a small project team who are the owner representatives at a site with several hundred construction workers present.
Job Dimensions:
· Significant autonomy in work, but a strong reporting and approval process using BP Wind internal procedures and joint venture (JV) project specific approval levels.
· No direct reports, but matrix management of numerous internal and external personnel and large numbers of contractors performing daily work
Accountabilities
· Project safety – be the safety leader implementing and enforcing standard safety practices and philosophies
· Monitor daily activities at the construction sites, using this data to trend and develop detailed forecasts and ensure that corrective actions are done timely
·Overall project leadership through the relationship with your contractors
· Complies with Health Safety Security, and Environmental requirements
