Of course there’s no precise standards by which to judge how “green” any given celebrity may be but a few entertainment luminaries spring to mind for their outspoken support of environmental causes and their commitment to a greener lifestyle.

Ted Danson

For example, actor Ted Danson started the American Oceans Campaign in 1987 to advocate for stronger coastal and marine ecosystem protections. His views on marine conservation have spurred thousands of volunteers nationwide to take part in letter-writing campaigns as well as coastal clean-ups and other related events.

Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz hosted ‘Trippin’, a MTV show about eco-tourism. During the first season, Diaz travelled with Justin Timberlake, comedian Jimmy Fallon and rapper Talib to localities as diverse as Costa Rica, Tanzania and Yellowstone National Park to encourage the safeguarding of these breathtaking natural environments.

Daryl Hannah

Daryl Hannah is solar-powering her homes in Colorado and Malibu, maintains and eats from her organic gardens and running her vehicles on bio-diesel pumped from her own home processing facility.

Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford has served on Conservation International’s Board of Directors for 10 years. He also actively participates in the work of the organization. Harvard Medical School recently honoured Ford with its 2002 Global Environmental Citizen Award.

Leo DiCaprio

Leo DiCaprio is involved since the mid-1990s on environmental issues. Leo publicly supports Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” and his foundation has funded projects by the Natural Resources Defense Council, the International Fund For Animal Welfare, the Dian Fossey Foundation, Reef Check, Oceana and Santa Monica’s Heal The Bay to name a few. Leo DiCaprio’s foundation places particular emphasis on the issues of global warming, alternative and renewable energy sources, and the preservation of biodiversity.

Now, we wonder were wind power generated green energy comes into this? We have not found any evidence that any name worthy celebrity is generating their electricity with the help of a residential wind mill. Do celebrities consider wind mills or a wind turbine in their gardens an ugly eye-sore? Could one not imagine a beautiful retro ‘Dutch Style’ windmill turning preciously in the back garden of a celebrity’s 10 acre-sized estate in Hollywood .L.A.? What do you think?

California has set energy efficiency standards for appliances and buildings that now makes Californians 40 per cent more energy efficient than average Americans.

The ‘Green’ Terminator

Californian Arnold’s Million Solar Roof Initiative has deployed megawatts of clean power on rooftops across the state and created high-paying, sustainable jobs that can’t be outsourced. Their Hydrogen Highway Network is demonstrating that cars powered by the most abundant, clean resource in the universe can create even more new businesses - and freedom from unreliable, polluting fossil fuels.

His vision is that the new industrial revolution must be built on sustainable resources and technologies such as wind energy and the Sustainable Century - will be defined by businesses built on clean, renewable, globally abundant resources made available to everyone. What a transformation from an acting ruthless killing machine to an active and out spoken green energy supporter with a vision and immense influence.
