MyWindpowerSystem.com has discovered a group of alternative energy enthusiasts from Colorado who want to spread the message that it is EASY to make your own power FROM SCRATCH. This group name themselves ‘Otherpower.com and their headquarters are located in a remote part of the Northern Colorado Mountains, some 12 miles past the nearest power pole or phone line. All of their houses and shops run on only solar, wind, water and generator power…not because they are trying to make some sort of political or environmental statement, but because these are the only options available. And they refuse to move to town.
MyWindPowersystem.com found their enthusiasm about self-build, renewable energy so exciting that we decided to give those folks a little feature on our own site.
Otherpower.com members say that they would have never made it to their present level of home-made electricity up in the Northern Colorado Mountains without the help of friends, neighbours and people they have never met before… and this is with the help and power of the internet. Their main goal is to share their learned knowledge about experimental successes and failures they have experienced while constructing and building their home wind turbines, free of charge, with anyone who is interested. They also offer a wide selection of hard-to-find alternative energy parts and components which they are selling through their Online Store. These guys have great ideas. One of them is that of an inexpensive 40-watt solar power/battery/inverter system for your camper van or fishing trailer….

…. or how to build a 2kw axial-flux alternator for a vintage steam engine
